I fantasmi di Fellini. Citazioni e reinvenzioni cinematografiche ne “ La città delle donne”

    Get PDF
The citation, according to Federico Fellini, is a fantasy reinvention that gets only some elements, especially visual, from the memory of a film. The imagination transfigures them with additions, dilatations, creative images and sounds manipulations; this is what happens for the fragment of City of Women (1980): it recalls a fragment of Guido Brignone's Maciste in Hell (1925), transforming it in a new sequence

A World into the World. Alexander Sokurov and the Museums: Russian Ark and Francofonia

In Aleksandr Sokurov’s films, Russian Ark (Russkiy kovcheg, 2002) and Francofonia (id., 2015), the museums, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg and the Louvre in Paris, become protagonists. The mazy space of the museum, as a place where the great works of art in the world are preserved, is a temple of memory and past. But this wealth of knowledge is not seen by Sokurov exclusively as a treasure of artistic and historical culture and erudition, but also as a theater of the collective imagination of a country.

Un condamné à mort s’est échappé or Le vent souffle ou il veut (1956), by Robert Bresson, Le Trou (1960) by Jacques Becker and Un Prophète (2009) by Jacques Audiard, are three films where the prison dimension is not a narrative device at the service of striking and adventurous actions, but constitutes a universe where we witness the radicalization of some human dynamics, a form of dramatic condensation that it reveals the qualities, potentials and miseries of human beings, thanks to the conditions of coercion and the claustrophobia in which the characters are forced to live.

Run-time detection and correction of heliostat tracking errors

    No full text
This paper investigates the effect of tracking errors in heliostats used in solar tower power plants and proposes an approach based on low-cost distributed electronics capable of limiting their impact. An analysis carried out through a parallel model sets the specifications for design of a closed-loop solar tracker based on a low-cost six-axis digital e-compass. A proof of concept system is devised to test the accuracy of the proposed strategy. This approach allows the solar tracker to perform a run-time detection and correction of heliostat tracking errors, with an accuracy of about 3mrad for the azimuth angle and less than 2mrad for the altitude angle, thus leading to a higher concentration ratio than with an open-loop solar-tracker

Oxidative Stability of Long-Chain Fatty Acids with Different Unsaturation Degrees into Layered Double Hydroxides

Nowadays, there is increasing evidence that the intake of essential fatty acids (FAs) and oleic acid has high nutritional importance. However, the vulnerability of these FAs to oxidation deserves special attention. FA oxidation may be avoided or delayed by intercalation of its anionic form in inorganic matrices as layered double hydroxides (LDH). Thus, the aim of the study was to evaluate the protective effects of MgAl LDH towards oleate (O), linoleate (L) and α-linolenate (Ln) degradation. The incorporation and the loading of different FAs in anionic form in LDH was determined by X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. In order to study the selectivity of LDH towards the FA, the inorganic solid was equilibrated with a mixture of O, L and Ln (1:1:1). TGA and gas chromatography showed that Ln was preferentially intercalated. Free FA (FFA) and intercalated FA (IFA) were heated at 40 °C in the dark and then analyzed weekly for a maximum of 42 days. Their oxidative stability was evaluated by monitoring the primary and secondary oxidative compounds. The volatile compounds were determined by solid-phase microextraction, coupled with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Peroxide values were higher in FFA samples than in IFA samples, such as hexanal and trans,trans-2,4-heptadienal % contents. The results showed the potential of LDH intercalation for FA preservation from oxidative modification

Power-Aware Job Scheduling on Heterogeneous Multicore Architectures

none5siThis paper presents a power-aware scheduling algorithm based on efficient distribution of the computing workload to the resources on heterogeneous CPU-GPU architectures. The scheduler manages the resources of several computing nodes with a view to reducing the peak power. The algorithm can be used in concert with adjustable power state software services in order to further reduce the computing cost during high demand periods. Although our study relies on GPU workloads, the approach can be extended to other heterogeneous computer architectures. The algorithm has been implemented in a real CPU-GPU heterogeneous system. Experiments prove that the approach presented reduces peak power by 10 percent compared to a system without any power-aware policy and by up to 24 percent with respect to the worst case scenario with an execution time increase in the range of 2 percent. This leads to a reduction in the system and service costs.Date of Publication: 02 aprile 2014 - Anno pubblicazione definitiva: 2015mixedMatteo Chiesi; Luca Vanzolini; Claudio Mucci; Eleonora Franchi Scarselli; Roberto GuerrieriMatteo Chiesi; Luca Vanzolini; Claudio Mucci; Eleonora Franchi Scarselli; Roberto Guerrier
